I’ve made it no secret that I’m, shall we say, a little “housekeeping challenged.” I hope you read my confessions in “Why Is My House Always Such A Mess!?” under Little Helpers for Thought.
So, I decided that someone as challenged as myself, needs to take baby steps, to get this under control. First, are there any cleaning products that really work, without me having to work too hard? I want to let you know about a product that actually worked for me. Kaboom Mold and Mildew Stain Remover with Bleach. As I was giving my bathroom a good thorough cleaning, I sprayed it on the dirty part of the tile and was going to let it “set” while I cleaned the rest of the bathroom, then go back to it and scrub it away. Didn’t have to go back and scrub it away! The dirt was gone! I just wiped it with a wet cloth, just to make sure I didn’t have a lot of bleach left over. I need more like that, that do the work for me! I have this disgusting gunk splashed all over my kitchen walls. I have to idea what it is, but nothing seems to get it clean. Any suggestions?
Now, for the clutter. I was going to have a yard sale so the grands could have a lemonade stand. I sure have enough stuff to have a garage sale, but it’s garage sale stuff – nothing worth taking a picture of and putting on Craig’s list or Ebay or OfferUp or anything else for that matter. But, the grands got busy with Cheer Camp, dance, skating and everything else, so I never had the yard sale. I still have to get rid of this clutter and I can’t wait until I have it all packed up and organized. I know damn well that will never happen.
So, looking on Facebook one day, I found this great solution. It’s called Pickup Please http://bit.ly/PUP-30Day and it’s a charity to benefit American Veterans. So, you’re not selling anything, you’re donating. The website tells about a 30-Day Declutter Challenge. I’ll probably need more than 30 days, but baby steps. Once I clicked on the link, there was a 30 day list of what you should clean out on what day. That was a good guide, but nothing really about how to declutter. That information was included in the Recent Posts off to the left. Here are the links that were there on the day I looked.

So after all this work and decluttering and organizing, I’m entitled to treat myself to my favorite adult beverage – WINE!!! I’ll be sipping away, while reading all of your suggestions on how to help me literally “clean house.”

Okay, how cute and cheap and easy is this? Three year old Olivia loves to go for walks and pick up leaves. So, we took a pail and collected different types of leaves – different sizes, different colors, etc. Then we went back home and drew a trunk and some branches on a piece of paper and glued on the leaves. DIY tree!
Olivia gets some of her decorations for cheap at the Dollar Tree! Sorry, you have to provide your own hands and feet.

Eggs aren’t just for Easter. Kroger had eggs for 69 cents a dozen large. We got googly eyes, tacky glue and paint at the Dollar Tree and came up with these scary Halloween eggs – a seven-eyed turkey, a scary witch and a happy pumpkin to name a few.

LITTLE HELPERS FOR WINTER SKIN
Two-Minute Beauty Secret
Last year, this little secret came from Fox 2 Detroit’s own
Deena Centofanti
(WJBK) – We’ve all had the wish that our skin would look a little younger and fresher. America’s Holistic Plastic Surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn tells us all we need is two minutes in the morning and in the evening to make a big difference.
The morning’s routine is all about protecting your skin.
Dr. Youn has three steps for the morning. First, cleanse your skin. Second, apply an antioxidant like Vitamin C to fight off all the grime and debris, like pollution or smoke that damages our skin throughout the day. Lastly, use sunscreen. Many makeups have sunscreen built right in. Dr. Youn says we need to be using at least SPF 30.
The nighttime routine is all about rejuvenating the skin.
First, Dr. Youn says to cleanse the skin again to get rid of the day’s worth of grime that’s built up. Then, apply your anti-aging cream.
Dr. Youn says retinol-cased creams are the most scientifically proven to fight aging. They’re not too expensive, but they are aggressive. So, if that irritates your skin, Dr. Youn recommends growth factors or peptide-based creams.
And wouldn’t you know, cleansing products, vitamin C, retinol and sunscreen products are available from – you guessed it – me – from my Avon E-Store:

AND THEY’RE ALL ON SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fortunately, there are a lot of little helpers for people with disabilities. Here are only a few. Please let us know about some of your favorite products and services at debbie@grammyslittlehelpers.com or http://www.grammyslittlehelpers.com
My husband Roger had four strokes during an emergency surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. That was 14 years ago and he’s come a long way. Aphasia is a common disorder caused by damage to parts of the brain that control language. To this day he can’t read, write, count, dial a telephone, put his contract lenses in his eyes, drive or understand simple directions.
I bought Rog a few things from a company called Independent Living Aids. Due to the fact that he couldn’t recognize numbers nor did he have the hand co-ordination to use a regular telephone, I got him one with photos of those of us he may have to call. All he had to do was press my picture, and I would get his call. Another thing that helped Rog early on was a fork with a thick handle that was easier for him to hold that a regular fork. Check out some other things from Independent Living Aids here: https://www.independentliving.com
Rog can’t tie his shoes – again, he doesn’t have the hand coordination. Solution? Elastic shoe strings. I tie his shoes while he wears them, so they are comfortable, they he just slips his feet in and out. They are also available online from Walmart. Just click here and search Jobar International Elastic Shoelace.
Rog lives for his woodcarving class, but he’s not allowed to play with sharp objects. If he cuts himself he doesn’t know, so carving with a knife is out of the question. He uses a nifty little tool fromDremel. Dremel products are also available on line at Walmart.
Did you know there is a library for the blind and physically disabled? Rog isn’t totally blind, but his vision is extremely impaired. The Clinton Macomb Public Library located at 40900 Romeo Plank in Clinton Township has a Library for the Blind within the public library. Rog is getting audio books, large print books and magazines delivered right to the door. When he is finished, he returns them to the package in which they came, puts them in the mailbox and they send him a new one. There are qualifications to participate, so click on this link or call Anne at (586) 226-5053 for more information. They are so kind and helpful and you don’t even have to leave home. https://cmpl.org/mlbph

As a school counselor by trade I am often asked how can we support our kids. I would say love, hugs, and an open ear are the key. By being aware of your childs needs is the key to helping transition them back to the grind of the school year. Creating consistency as best you can when it come to a school schedule and home schedule. Communicate to them that you are there to help. Model good study skills create a planner and a plan and stick to it with positive reinforcement. Start early get kids on a sleep schedule and a eating schedule. I know I know seems simple but it is the little things that make a difference. Last make learning fun and enjoy your time with that special little one. Kevin Botos M.A. LLPC

First of all cousin you are a saint and your job has always been 24 7. Even with the struggles that you went with through the years I still see Roger every once in awhile and he still has that same wit about him. Which is awesome! and I’m glad to see that he’s living life with a smile. As you know early in my childhood I dealt with Tourette syndrome and it was a struggle for me and my folks especially with school and teachers and also my peers. But it’s one of those things that as a strong person you get through which will Roger has done tremendously well at and he’s got you by your side which is awesome as well. Much love to you cousin!

Thanks Justin, what a great idea. Rog carves and his specialty is birds. He is always feeding the birds. I’m going to have the grandkids do this project. I wonder if there is a kit available. Not only will this project help with the bird feeding, but it’s something Grampy will actually be able to help the kids with rather than vice versa. Thanks again and stay tuned for pictures!
